James L. McAlister

 

James L. McAlister is a 1994 graduate of Marquette University Law School. He is engaged in the general practice of law, specializing in real estate, with an emphasis on litigation relating thereto. Attorney McAlister graduated summa cum laude from Carthage College while majoring in Political Science.

Attorney McAlister began his real estate work as a lawyer in a title insurance company. Before beginning this venture, he received extensive training with Chicago Title Insurance Company and obtained a State of Wisconsin Title Examination License. As a title lawyer, Attorney McAlister searched and examined title, produced title commitments and final policies, as well as drafting all types of real estate transfer documents, including deeds, land contracts, mortgages, notes, and satisfactions. He also worked extensively with both real estate agents and lenders closing hundreds of transactions. As a title insurance attorney, he also dealt with a wide variety of legal issues concerning real estate deals and title insurance.

In addition to his real estate background, Attorney McAlister has also worked on both sides of the litigation bar. He began his career working at a large personal injury firm and later joined a general practice law firm, which emphasized insurance defense. At this job, Attorney McAlister gained the knowledge and experience necessary to work with large, national insurers.

Having represented both plaintiffs and defendants, Attorney McAlister is fluent with all aspects of litigation from pretrial procedure to post trial motions. Furthermore, he has drafted or participated in the drafting of appellate briefs for all levels of state and federal courts including petitions for certiorari to the United States Supreme Court.
